basswerk sessions vol. 2
(2xcd, 5x vinyl as single twelves BW 16,17,18,19,20)
basswerk germany's leading drum & bass label since and is well acknowledged so ever since the release of their first cd basswerk sessions 1. in 2003, basswerk was elected germany's drum & bass label of the year (future-music awards).
our artists the green man (tgm), taxidriver, giana brotherz, jonathan baker, bassface sascha, misanthrop, diz:play, konrad&coda, basztart & acoustic b, cytech and icr come up with very individual styles from ultradark via electro and finally funky and jazzy. they played worldwide in usa, canada, france, russia, italy, spain, switzerland, austria, serbia, hungary ..
basswerk philosophy remains the same: everything is allowed in the jungle, and we love the space that d&b offers for producing, as there is also room for punk, jazz, neurofunky electronic and dub-vibes. the tracks sound epic, hard, organic or minimal. yet we still think that the musical side of the tracks can be kept. there's no need for borders between minimal techno and d&b. when the beats get faster, the musical aspect doesn't have to be reduced to vocals, liquid funk or brazil elements.
all the tracks on here have never been out on cd before - and this cd is the perfect dj tool in the age of cd-mixing as it is unmixed and delivers 23 quality tracks for the price of one cd. some of them are available on vinyl on basswerk, combination records (www.combination-rec.de) or the giana brotherz' new label - or are just exclusive on this cd.

Cologne based Basswerks keeps the quality superb with a block banging 2 disc follow up to the famous original Basswerks Sessions 1. Using the mixes as a showcase for fine german producers, as well as a few top-notch foreign brewmasters, Sessions 02 retains the familiar drum & bass stylings well into the second generation now, while at the same time giving party mixers such as Greenman (Heiner Kruse) and Taxidriver (the ever defying Cheetah and spinster Michael Rieck) plenty of room to boom and build using hard spatial beats and quick flow to create sonic grooves. What is really cool about this entire double disc set is the lack of filler. One could put these platters on, and the floor will never get cold. The dubs are defined cleanly, the fades and builds never succumbing to boredom. Saying this about d&b releases is rare, for most fall down after a time and try to become a chill out session, whereas Basswerk Sessions 02 keeps the party pumping. German vinyl is highly sought after throughout the world, and Basswerks has a diamond here; much of this material has been out before on Basswerk vinyl, yet never sequenced to such a long running, high energy product this release represents. Respect goes out to this disc set, check out the treatment of Konrad and Coda doing "Don't Let Me", it is truly classic, as this complete set will become known as. Remember, regardless of if you're a d&b fanatic, every good dj needs to turn on to this....quick.
